BICYCLE INDUSTRY RECOGNIZES OTTAWA CITY COUNCILLOR DAVID CHERNUSHENKO AT ANNUAL GATHERING

Political Leader AwardMONTREAL - September 10, 2013 - The Bicycle Trade Association of Canada (BTAC) at its annual ExpoCycle trade show recognized Ottawa Councillor David Chernushenko for his contributions to the promotion of bicycling and cycling infrastructure in Canada.

"David's support of, and passion for cycling made him a natural choice for the bicycle industry's first ever award recognizing a political leader in Canada," said Bill Yetman, Executive Director of BTAC. "The cycling industry was delighted to have Councillor Chernushenko join us for the awards celebration and to thank him personally for his significant contributions."

The award for Contribution by a Politician in Canada recognizes special achievement by an elected representative who has, by their own example or by the support for investments and programs, advanced cycling municipally, provincially or federally.

Political leaders at all levels of government make vital contributions to the industry by acting as supporters for cycling initiatives and projects during policy deliberations in their ridings, municipalities, and/or regions.

Canadian pro cyclist and Tour de France participant David Veilleux was also on hand to congratulate Chernushenko for his contribution to cycling in Canada.
