At a recent BTAC board meeting, board members were provided with briefings on a number of new benefits that are being developed for the BTAC membership. In addition to significant credit and debit card benefits, members will shortly receive details of other programs such as a new insurance benefit and a comprehensive consumer finance program.
BTAC members will also be able to take advantage of a new awareness campaign that highlights the positive results and impact of shopping locally. BTAC's Shop Local campaign will support members in their efforts to promote independent retail stores in Canada and endorse the positive effect they have on their local communities and economies. Members participating in the BTAC Shop Local campaign will receive campaign collateral for their business and catchy graphic materials (logos, web badges, decal/stickers) for advertising, promotions, and to enhance their web- and social media presence.
Shop Local and similar campaigns are no longer viewed as a passing marketing trend. They are fast becoming recognized by market researchers and consumers as a positive and durable feature of our reemerging economy. Recent studies in North America have shown that "buy local" movements and the "country-of-origin effect" on purchasing have become cultural and economic forces that are driving real change and translate to market advantages for increasing traffic and revenue, as well in cost savings.
BTAC Members committed to the values and incentives of the Shop Local campaign will receive the Shop Local collateral poster and other materials over the next few months. Participants are encouraged to display the Shop Local logo and print materials in your ads, on your website, in your store windows, company vehicles, bicycle helmets, etc., and to otherwise proudly associate your organization with BTAC's Shop Local initiative.
